ABOUT

Renee DeMont

My name is Renee. I only just recently figured out my last name (after a long path of poverty, foster care, adoption, and divorce). I chose the surname of DeMont, the name someone listed on my birth certificate, because I like the sound, and it’s the one that came before all of the other.

I choose to write in a sincere effort to reconcile my past with my present. Hopefully, through this cathartic process, my second half will be led by my soul’s desire, rather than by my fears and doubts of the first half.

I like naps near fireplaces, tasty spontaneous lunches with friends, Love of all kinds, droplets of rain, being a good daughter to my wonderful father, my children’s giggles when they make each laugh, taking adventures around the world, receiving out of the blue texts from an old friend, and iced tea with extra ice.

I’m a blog reading fanatic, Facebook keeps me connected to those precious folk I truly care about, I desperately want to see and work at ending childhood hunger, and I’d like to get a massage once in a while.

Love yourselves, love each other, hug snugly, kiss tenderly, and smile joyfully whenever you can. That alone is enough.

True Stories

I was born into poverty. Homeless most of my childhood. I am eight years old here.
This piece highlights one winter night when my mother, my three younger siblings, and I find
ourselves stranded on the streets of Los Angles. Mama makes us a bed on a stone bench
because we had nowhere else to go…

"This story, your story … broke my heart into a million pieces. Your eloquence is breathtaking. "

— Julie Anderson

"I love the flowering way you have with words, even the harsh ones, and challenging backstory… because sometimes dreams carry you through the harshest reality."

— Jacqueline Cioffa, The Red Bench… A Descent and Ascent into Madness

A Letter to my Recently Separated Friend

We spoke this morning. You wept tears of confusion, hurt, and fear. I want you to know: I AM HERE. I may not have the answers, but I will always have the desire to listen; a shoulder to lean on, an open heart to feel your pain. I am your friend. YOU CAN DO THIS. You...

I Won’t Do That Again

Do you have a thing or two you have vowed never to do again? I have a list. As I grow older, and hopefully wiser, the list gets longer. I will never worry if my truth conflicts with your beliefs. My thoughts work for me. Your beliefs are your business. Not mine to...
